Founded in 1961, the United States Surfing Association (USSA) was the first nationwide association for surfing ever formed. Like any new group, they needed a logo that would catch people's eye. The USSA held a design competition which was won by surf legend Marge Calhoun's daughter, Candy. The surfer is modeled after Dewey Weber riding a wave at Pupukea, O`ahu.
