Outrigger canoe racing, along with surfing is one of the defining images and activities in Hawaiian culture, and since 1908 canoe clubs have become prominent participants both in the sport and in their communities. On the Big Islands northwestern coast, you can find the Waikoloa Canoe Club, which stands as both a home for paddling enthusiasts and an active member in strengthening community relations. The Waikoloa Canoe Club was founded in 1985 and has been successfully competing in Regattas throughout Hawaii for over 30 years. This non-profit organization features racing teams for men, women and juniors and focuses on teaching proper seamanship and techniques.
