Back in 1967, Mike Turkington and Mike Hobak opened the North Shore's second surf shop, Country Surfboards, located in the old 1935 M. Yoshida building in Haleiwa. Country Surfboards played a pivotal role in the late 60’s and early 70’s transition from guns to the shortboards designed specifically for the North Shore. Its trippy logo, complete with peace sign, yin-yang, and psychedelic flora, has helped to make Country Surfboards one of the most recognizable brands in surf history.
