The Television show Baywatch, which focused on Los Angeles County Lifeguards, began with less than stellar reception, debuting in 1989 and being canceled after just one season. However, the show’s star, David Hasselhoff, still felt that the show could be a huge hit. He took on a role as executive producer and helped to get the show revived in 1991. As Hasselhoff predicted, the show exploded in popularity becoming a global phenomenon during the 1990’s. For the final two seasons of the show’s eleven-year run, it was relocated to Hawaii and renamed Baywatch Hawaii. During its two-year stint, the show was filmed on Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and The Big Island, with Waimanalo Beach on Oahu serving as one of the regular locations.
