The Outboard Boating Club of America was the public service sector of the non-profit industry trade association along with the Outboard Boat Manufacturers Association and the Outboard Motors Manufacturer Association. They published guides and instructional materials for boat owners while promoting outboard boating. In 1959, the OBC released their Standards Manual, citing motor, rigging, boat, and trailer standards for members of the trade organization, emphasizing the safety and reliability of its members’ products. OBC became organized under the Boating Industry Association which turned into the National Marine Manufacturers Association, today’s leading boat and marine engine trade association in the U.S.
