Academy Award-nominated director, Bruce Brown spent two years chasing summer around the world and capturing footage that set the standard for all future surf films. Surfers Michael Hynson and Robert August were lucky enough to get to search for the perfect wave off the coasts of Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Tahiti, and Hawai'i. Laughter and live music poured out of the Blue Goose bar as people flocked to it. Located in Honolulu, Hawaii, the Blue Goose was a popular bar during the 1960s-70s for college students. Just down the road from the University of Hawaii on Oahu, the Blue Goose offered a full bar and live R&B musical performances. During the 1970s, a popular Hawaiian group called Jon & Randy played at the Blue Goose, drawing large crowds filling the bar to the brim. Although the Blue Goose bar closed its doors in the late 90s, the warm, welcoming spirit of Aloha lives on in the memories college students have of late nights, sticky floors and beautiful music.

Hawaiian Airlines has a long and storied history. Incorporated in 1929 under the name Inter-Island Airways Ltd, our original fleet was comprised of two eight-passenger Sikorsky S-38 amphibian planes. From those modest beginnings, we’ve grown to be Hawaii’s biggest and longest-serving airline with more than 160 jet flights daily between the Hawaiian Islands and over 240 daily flights system wide.

In the Hawaiian language, Lahaina means “merciless sun” characterizing the arid climate. Legend has it, a bald ali’i (chief) was walking without a hat feeling the relentless sun beating down on his head, looking upwards he cursed the sun. During the 19th century, Lahaina became the center of the global whaling industry. Although Lahaina was the capital of Hawaii in the early 1800s, the capital was moved back to Honolulu in 1845 because it offered a deeper harbor for the growing number of whaling ships. Eventually, Lahaina became a favorite tourist destination, immersing visitors in its incredible natural beauty and educating them on native Hawaiian culture. Sadly, in August 2023, a wildfire decimated most of Lahaina. More than 11,000 people had to evacuate. The Pacific Disaster Center estimates the damage around $5.52 billion. Our thoughts and prayers are with Lahaina during recovery.

On April 17, 1935, the S-42 Pioneer Clipper skimmed to the first ever landing in Hawaiian waters after a flight from Alameda, California that lasted 17 hours and 44 minutes. Lockheed Martin‘s history is full of over a century of innovation and ingenuity in aviation. Back in 1912 in Los Angeles, California, Glenn L. Martin, was building his first aircraft in a rented church building, with the encouragement of Orville Wright. 400 miles North in San Francisco, brothers Allan and Malcolm Lockheed were developing seaplanes that would shatter records for distance and speed. Both companies would continue to evolve over the next 80 years consistently producing some of the finest aircraft in the world mostly for military use. This included the Stealth and Blackbird planes developed by Lockheed‘s secret Skunk Works division, and Martin creating everything from the P-38 Lightning plane to many of the rockets that helped propel the American space program. The two companies merged in 1995 forming Lockheed Martin as an aviation powerhouse. Today the company continues to develop a wide array of aircraft, aerospace, and defense products including the new F-35 Lightining, for which there is a flight simulator located at Pearl Harbor.
