Clark Foam

Founded in 1961 by Gordon "Grubby" Clark in Laguna Niguel, California, Clark Foam changed the surfing world by creating polyurethane foam blanks. These blanks became the foundation of modern surfboard design, allowing shapers like Dale Velzy and Dick Brewer to craft their unique models. At its peak, Clark Foam supplied around 90% of the world’s surfboard blanks, cementing its status as a key player in surf history. Though the company closed in 2005, its influence on surfboard shaping and surf culture remains strong.
