Chain stitching holds a unique place in the fashion world as it is handmade unlike modern machine embroidery you see on most clothing. There are no programmed designs or computers used in the process, rather the stitching is done by hand, making each item one of a kind. The hand stitching machines, typically either a Comely or Singer, are treadle tables operated by a foot pedal and controlled with a hand-crank. Chain Stitching is a time-intensive process that requires a steady hand and great attention to detail.
