Chain stitching holds a unique place in the fashion world as it is handmade unlike modern machine embroidery you see on most clothing. There are no programmed designs or computers used in the process, rather the stitching is done by hand, making each item one of a kind. The hand stitching machines, typically either a Comely or Singer, are treadle tables operated by a foot pedal and controlled with a hand-crank. Chain Stitching is a time-intensive process that requires a steady hand and great attention to detail. It also produces some of the most elaborate and intricate designs as it allows the artist to produce vivid detail through the meticulous methods. Due to the mastery and time-demanding nature of this art, there are not many people who know how to do it. On our clothing, we are proud to offer beautiful, one of a kind, chain stitched apparel made through a labor of love and appreciation for vintage art.
