Founded in Haleiwa in 1961, Surfboards Hawaii was the performance board of choice for the biggest names in surfing during the Sixties. Everyone from Buzzy Trent and Jeff Hakman to Fred Van Dyke and Alton Tavaris rode one. As did International Surfing Hall of Famer and Makaha champ, Fred Hemmings. There was even a Buffalo Model, named for Buffalo “Mr. Makaha” Keaulana, who preferred Surfboards Hawaii to any other maker. If you were lucky enough to cruise the North Shore in the 1960's, you would have come across countless Surfboards Hawaii longboards.
