Fans flocked to Riverside Drag Strip to witness the nation’s top dragsters while Giovannoni-equipped cars set astounding records of 175.78 MPH within 9.01 seconds. A monumental shift began in drag racing during 1960 as drag racing champions, both new and old, changed to the “Big G” NHRA-sanctioned Detroit Dragway in Michigan which was the location where Don Garlits smashed the 187.10 MPH record from Fremont, California, going 190.27 miles per hour in a Giovannoni-equipped car. This shocking achievement elicited waves of excitement from dragster fans and further increased Giovannoni’s popularity.
