In 1906, Edward “Dude” Miller helped to arrange a beach concession, offering the hotel guests a host of services to explore the beach and ocean. Many of the Beach Boys were pulled from the Hui Nalu and were held to a strict code of conduct including no drinking, no gambling, being clean shaven and keeping their hands off female guests. The Beach Boys also took it upon themselves to keep the beaches safe and clean for visitors and kama’aina alike. Some of the best known and most beloved Beach Boys included Blue Makua Sr., Duke Kahanamoku, Sam Kahanamoku, Rabbit Kekai, Steamboat Mokuahi, and Panama Dave.

Well, it’s really quite easy: HOO-moo-HOO-moo-NEW-coo-NEW-coo-AH-poo-AH-ah. Now, try saying that three times fast. If that’s too hard to say, you might just want to call it by its other name, the Hawaiian Trigger Fish. Whew, much easier. Roughly, its name means, fish with a pig-nosed face, which is appropriate given the fact that these funny fishes also grunt.
