Unit price perEdward Fletcher and Co. began manufacturing men’s and boy's wear in Australia in 1939 and continued to be a common apparel brand for many decades. In 1972, the company saw an opportunity in the market to introduce a low cost, but well styled short which they called Stubbies. That same year, Stubbies went on to sell over 750,000 pairs, and by 1978 these shorts were so successful that the company officially changed its name to Stubbies Clothing Co. In the late 1970’s and into the 1980’s Stubbies sponsored a series of trial events in California, Hawaii and Florida to help contestants to qualify for the Stubbies Surf Classic. If you’re wondering about the name, legend says they were trying to come up with a name for the shorts and a tired salesmen got up and said, “This is thirsty work, I’m going out for a stubbie [of beer].” The name stuck.

Issued jerseys displaying their call numbers, they were judged on a point system through various heats, with the top point-getter taking home the championship trophy. Following the 1967 season, the USSA split into four regional groups: the Western Surfing Association, the Eastern Surfing Association, the Hawaiian Surfing Association and the Gulf Coast Surfing Association. Unit price perNSA at the Ranch Competition T-Shirt
$32.00 USD
Unit price perFounded in the mid 1980s by Frank Hawk, the National Skateboard Association made competition, once again, a priority for skaters. NSA was a proud host to many skate competitions during the 1980s to the 1990s, but as participation began to dwindle, the association was forced to shutdown. Around this time, various famous skaters made their mark in competition through one of the two most common skating styles of the time- freestyle and vert. Rodney Mullen, a freestyle champion, revived and perfected the kickflip, becoming one of the most notorious street skaters in skate history. Tony Hawk, son of Frank Hawk, prevailed in vert skating and became an internationally recognized, professional skater. Gathering at skateparks was a popular pastime among many Hawaiians as riding a skateboard was similar to riding a surfboard. Originating in 1977, Kona Skatepark continues to be the longest remaining private skatepark in the world with activities ranging from lessons to week long skate camps, and includes a snake run, vert ramp, street course, and numerous pools.
